Bee Natural – Introduction

Bee natural - By letting the bees build their own comb, regulate their own nest, and defend themselves against pests, we produce healthier colonies, tastier honey, and a deeper connection to the natural world. Let’s begin.

Welcome to Bee Natural – Beekeeping with Warre.

In the heart of Ireland’s bogs and wildflower meadows, honeybees have thrived for thousands of years without human interference. The Warre hive, also known as the People’s Hive (Ruche Populaire), was designed by French priest Abbé Émile Warré in the early 20th century to mimic these natural tree-trunk homes as closely as possible while remaining practical for the modern beekeeper.

This book provides a complete, ready-to-implement guide to natural beekeeping using the Warre hive. We emphasise minimal intervention, chemical-free methods, natural comb building, and respect for the bees’ own instincts. Whether you are a complete beginner in County Offaly or an experienced beekeeper looking to transition to a more bee-centred approach, this book will equip you with everything you need.

Natural beekeeping is not just a technique – it is a philosophy. By letting the bees build their own comb, regulate their own nest, and defend themselves against pests, we produce healthier colonies, tastier honey, and a deeper connection to the natural world.

Let’s begin.

Life ain't easy but it's the only one we got. I'm trying. This is over the target:  “There's a bluebird in my heart that wants to get out but I'm too tough for him, I say, stay in there, I'm not going to let anybody see you.” ― Charles Bukowski
